“Art is a huge business,” says Wyland, who is best known for his life-size Whaling Wall murals and his efforts for global marine conservation.
“But success in the field doesn’t come easy. It takes talent, perseverance, and lots of integrity. I always had questions when I was a young artist and wished I had a resource like this.”
What started in a small gallery in Laguna Beach, California in 1983 expanded to galleries across the United States, from Hawaii to Florida. Today, Wyland galleries have become a “must-see” destination for millions of travelers. Wyland, himself, has helped to shape the way that we see, understand, and appreciate the ocean and it’s wild life. Wyland is a celebrated painter, sculptor, muralist, writer, filmmaker, and music producer.
Just one of his many accomplishments is that of being the official artist for the United Stated Olympic Team. He has created large-scale art for the Vancouver and Beijing Olympics and perhaps most notably, the “Hands Across the Ocean” wall mural that is nearly a mile long for the Olympic Cultural Festival in Beijing. He has even been able to paint the lawn
of the White House with the help of 14,000 kids to celebrate the health of the oceans.
What really tops off Wylands career is his ability to create his non-profit Wyland Foundation. With this he is able to combine art and science to educate millions of young people to become spokes people for the planet. He has inspired and painted with over one million kids in all 50 states and many countries all around the world.
Through his unique marine life paintings, sculptures, and photography, Wyland is able to inspire generation after generation about how important it is to take care of our oceans and the life that resides within it.

In April of 2018, Wyland revealed a massive mural on the side of a Norwegian Cruise liner, the Norwegian Bliss. If having your art on the side of a luxury cruise ship isn’t success, I don’t know what is!
